Single Mom’s Club Flopped, But Its Still Becoming A TV Show
Tyler Perry Studios is continuing the plan of producing a Single Mom’s Club television show for OWN. The series is on track to premiere in fall of 2014 with 20 episodes set for the first season. In an OWN press release, the show’s synopsis was exactly the same as the Single Mom’s Club movie synopsis reading as follows:
the new series tells the compelling story of several women from very different walks of life. Although the group of women has been dealt different circumstances, there is one thing that binds them together — their children. Each woman is a mother struggling to raise their kids, while finding and maintaining romantic relationships with the men they love.
Considering the movie flopped (Its made under $16 million so far on a likely budget of around $25 million), it wouldn’t be surprising if the outline of the show changes between now and the fall. Single Mom’s Club‘s rating on Rotten Tomatoes remains at a meager 17%. Clearly sticking to the same story line for the show is a bad decision both for Tyler Perry and for OWN.
