New Stills And The Latest On Lifetime’s ‘The Trip To Bountiful’
Lifetime is airing the TV-movie version of The Trip To Bountiful on its network on March 8, 2014 at 8/7c pm. Recently a Broadway revival of the play was a big hit. The show ended its latest Broadway run in October 2013 only after earning 4 Tony nominations including Best Revival of a Play, Best Featured Actress in a Play (Condola Rashad), Best Sound Design, and Best Actress in a Play. Cicely Tyson won the Best Actress in a Play award for her portrayal of Carrie Watts.
Cicely Tyson is reprising her stage role in the televised version version of the film, as is Vanessa Williams. Blair Underwood and Keke Palmer will take over roles played by Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Condola Rashad last year’s Broadway production.
Here’s the official description of the production from Lifetime:
In “The Trip to Bountiful,” Carrie Watts, begrudgingly lives with her busy, overprotective son, Ludie and pretentious daughter-in-law, Jessie Mae. No longer able to drive and forbidden to travel alone, she wishes for freedom from the confines of the house and begs her son to take her on a visit to her hometown of Bountiful. When he refuses, Mrs. Watts is undeterred and makes an escape to the local bus station, where she befriends Thelma, a young woman traveling home. When Ludie and Jessie Mae discover she is gone, they call in law enforcement to help, but Mrs. Watts is one step ahead of them and convinces the local sheriff to help her on her journey home to Bountiful.
