The Butler Keeps Kicking Butt At Box Office
The Butler is a box office money machine. If you haven’t seen it yet, there’s a good chance you will. It hasn’t begun to slow down in drawing audiences since its opening weekend when it made $24 million and kicked Kick-Ass 2’s butt. It set sights on being number one, and has remained so for 3 weeks, even in the face of new releases. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones couldn’t overtake The Butler in its second week. Over the labor day holiday, not even One Direction: This Is Us could knock it out of place. If you include the labor day Monday as part of he last weekend, the Butler made $20.20 million, while One Direction: This is US made $18.47 million. If you don’t count the full 3 day weekend, yes One Direction were a measly $1 million ahead. But the Butler’s longevity is still an amazing feat. For a film with a $30 million production budget, the margins aren’t too shabby.
