The Call Does Well, Earns Second Place At Weekend Box Office
Halle Berry’s latest film The Call, which costars Morris Chestnut, earned back its production budget its first weekend in the box office. The film earned $17.1 million, though the budget was only $13 million. It landed in second place last weekend, after Oz ($42.2 million), but beat out the debut of the Steve Carell and Jim Carrey’s comedy Wonderstone ($11 million). The film’s respectable earnings marked comeback of sorts for Berry, who hasn’t had a bigger opening since Gothika was released in 2003. Moviefone thinks the success of the film may be due to the film’s strong female forces. A reported 61% of the audience last weekend was female. This, and a combination of other factors including audience age, and the lack of competition in the thriller genre, have made the film a success.
