The Office’s Craig Robinson To Star In Untitled Sitcom
You may know Craig Robinson from the long running NBC sitcom The Office, which he’s appeared on since season 1. In the show he plays Darryl Philbin, a street smart warehouse employee who eventually gets promoted to an upstairs office worker. It turns out that Greg Daniels, the executive producer of The Office, is developing a new show in which Craig Robinson will take the lead. The show is not yet titled according to Deadline, but it has been purchased by NBC. Additionally Craig Robinson will play the role of producer.
Deadline provided this brief synopsis of the project:
The untitled project centers on a talented musician (Robinson) with rough edges who adjusts to his new life as a music teacher in a big-city middle school, where he encounters teacher politics and the temptations of single moms.
Though Robinson’s character isn’t what most would consider to be hugely popular, NBC seems to see some star potential in him. Also, now that we’re seeing an increase in numbers of Black women playing leading roles on television shows (Kerry Washington, Meagan Good), it will have positive impact to see Robinson as a male lead on a major network.
