1.Shonda Rhimes

It’s not out of the ordinary for hashtags from her hit shows to dominate 7 of the 10 trending Twitter topics simultaneously.  This happened a few times on Thursday nights in 2012 when her hit shows Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal aired back to back. Rhimes became a household name in 2012.

 2. Awkward Black Girl Lands TV Deal

Issa Rae’s web series Awkward Black Girl became more popular than ever in 2012. Due to its success, Rae teamed up with none other than Shonda Rhimes to produce her own show for the ABC television network.

3. Scandal/Kerry Washington Mania

#WhatTheHuck? Its virtually impossible for a social media user to sign into their account on a Thursday night without skimming over a friend’s reaction to Scandal on their Facebook or Twitter feed. As the face of the show Kerry Washington gained a lot of star power.

4. Think Like A Man Proves Black Movies Are Profitable

After George Lucas’ failure to prove Black films can be profitable with his project Red Tails, Think Like A Man succeeded at the job. The film grossed around $95 million worldwide with a production budget of only $12 million. It stayed at number #1 for two weeks, and in its second week it beat the Hunger Games’ weekend debut earnings.

5. Tyler Perry and Oprah Join Forces

Few predicted the  collaboration of this wealthy Black powerhouse duo.  Tyler Perry teamed up with the Oprah Winfrey to create exclusive shows for her OWN Network. Both shows should be arriving on OWN in mid 2013.

How do you feel about the list. Was anything important left off?
