Nicole Beharie Cast As Slave in Civil War Era Film

by on November 1, 2012

Nicole Beharie has been cast in an upcoming Civil War era film titled The Keeping Room. According to Hollywood Reporter it “tells the story of three Southern women — two sisters and a slave — who are forced to defend their home from the onslaught of a band of soldiers who have broken off from the Union Army.”

Beharie will co-star alongside Olivia Wilde and Hailee Steinfeld. With hype surrounding Civil War themed films like 12 Years As a Slave and Django Unchained, this film is the first production to offer female centric story.

Following release of Steve McQueen’s late 2011 film Shame, Nicole Beharie has gone on to star in a wide variety of flicks from Indie Dramas to Black films to next year’s 42 – a film about Jackie Robinson.  See more recent Nicole Beharie news stories.
