The Talented Chadwick Boseman Captures Persona Of James Brown In New Trailer
Chadwick Boseman (42) is starring as legendary funk musician James Brown in the August 1, 2014 biopic titled Get On Up. A trailer was recently released which gives us a sample of Boseman’s portrayal. In it he appears energetic, self-assured, and entertaining. James Brown, as a historical figure, is a contrast to Jackie Robinson, Boseman’s last notable big screen role. As Robinson, Boseman was solemn, sad, and often discouraged. We see no sign of any of these qualities in his portrayal of James Brown. In the trailer below, he is cheeky, lively, and indomitable. Boseman sure can act.
Get On Up is directed by Tate Taylor (The Help). The film is loaded with notable Black stars and features Viola Davis as James Brown’s mother Susie Brown, Octavia Spencer as Aunt Honey, Jill Scott in an unknown role, and Craig Robinson as sax player Maceo Parker. Do you think Chadwick Boseman can pull off a good impression of James Brown? Will it be enough to get an award nomination?
