Tyler Perry’s First 1-Hour Drama Series Headed To OWN Late 2014
Tyler Perry, known in television for producing 30-minute sitcoms that feature eclectic Black characters, is extending his scope. Later this year, a new Tyler Perry show will debut on OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). This time, it will be a full 1-hour drama based on his upcoming film Single Moms Club. This description of the show was posted to THR:
“The hourlong drama will premiere in the fall and centers on a group of single mothers from different walks of life who are brought together by an incident at their children’s school. They create a support group that helps them find comedy in the obstacles of life, and inner strength to overcome their personal challenges. ”
While the plot of both the film and show is very much the same, all new actors will be cast for the television production.
The network must be confident in the upcoming film’s success to base a television series on it before its theatrical release. Do you think they’ve made a wise decision? Will you be heading to see Single Moms Club in March?
