Just Two Black Golden Globe Winners In 2014

by on January 13, 2014

goldenglobeblackwinners-www.blallywood.comBlack actors and film productions were well represented in nominations for the 2014 Golden Globes Awards. With 12 Years As A Slave to Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, and quite a few television categories in the running, some victories were guaranteed. Unluckily, the competition this year was immense. Critically acclaimed films like Gravity and Dallas Buyers Club were also in the running. No single film was able to dominate several categories this year, and, as a result, 12 Years As A Slave, which was nominated in multiple categories, took home just one award. The film, based on Solomon Northup’s slave narrative, took home Best Motion Picture (Drama) – which is perhaps the most prestigious award. The song “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom took home Best Original Song (Motion Picture). In a less competitive year, 12 Years As A Slave would run away with awards. Hopefully the Oscars will allow it to shine a little more.
