Details About Angela Bassett’s American Horror Story Season 3 Character Revealed
American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy has added 2 black females to the cast of the show’s 3rd season. Gabourey Sidibe’s (Precious) involvement was announced in Spring of 2013, followed by the addition of Angela Bassett. The third season is dubbed American Horror Story: Coven, which refers to an assembly of witches.
Bassett will play Marie Laveau, based on the real life, infamous Voodoo practitioner who resided in New Orleans in the 1800s. A New Orleans newspaper, NOLA, interviewed Bassett on her portral of the city’s renowned relic. Bassett told the paper that she has interviewed experts on the art of voodoo as part of her research for the role. Additionally she’s picked up on the New Orleans accent:
“I’ve spent a lot of time at the hotel talking to the girl at the front desk,” she said. “She is just as friendly as she can be, but I’m trying to pick up on her accent, just to give a little flavor of that.”
A teaser trailer was released for the upcoming season, although individual characters, including those played by Bassett and Sidibe cannot be distinguished. Watch it below:
