Last night Jennifer Hudson gave a performance of “And I Am Telling You” from Dreamgirls at the Academy Awards ceremony and earned a standing ovation. Back in 2006, Hudson appeared in the movie version of the stage musical Dreamgirls. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Effie White in the film. Hudson had launched her career only a year before by making it to the top 10 in American Idol. She was 25 years old when Dreamgirls debuted in theaters.
