Tyler Perry In Men’s Health Talks Career, Weight Loss, Alex Cross
Tyler Perry is featured on the cover of Men’s Health magazine’s November 2012 issue. He gave an interview to Men’s Health where he answered questions about his career and his preparation for the Alex Cross role.
Beginning with his career, Perry, the highest-paid male entertainer in 2011
(he made $130 million), responded:
“I’ve worked my entire life to get to this place. The first 28 years of my life, it was hell and misery. Now I can do whatever I want. I don’t want any drama; I don’t want to argue; I don’t want to answer to anybody. I’ve worked too hard to get here, and I’m loving this freedom.”
On taking the Alex Cross role –  a character previously played by Morgan Freeman – Perry said:
“I thought, Well, Morgan Freeman played this role, you might not want to do this, ’cause Morgan Freeman knocked it out of the park. But the more I read it, the more I realized that I could do it.”
Finally on preparing for the role physically, Perry told Men’s Health he dropped 30 pounds of fat. He did cardio and weight-lifting in mornings, followed by afternoons spend practicing Kraz Maga for the movies fight scenes.
Perry’s diet consisted of egg whites, ground turkey chili, grilled chicken breasts, and green shakes. That doesn’t sound too terrible!
Alex Cross co-star Matthew Fox appeared on Jimmy Kimmel last night and confessed to eating 1200-1500 calories a day to drop fat for his role as the villain.
Are you ready to see both men get physical and battle each other in Alex Cross? The movie hits theaters today.
